The plant is a tuberous herb cultivated throughout the
country. The large, dark brown,
dorso-vertrally compressed and succulent corm, which is 20-25 cm. in diameter, is used as a vegetable. The plant belongs to the plant family
Araceae. The leaves forming a rosette at
the terminal end, are compound, large with stout 60-90 cm. long petioles. The spadix inflorescence, 20 cm. long, bears
the male and female flowers, which are protected by a large, broad spathe which
is about 25 cm. long.
